Beef Jerky-Training It Is!

So now it’s for real, I’m an official of the Rockcity Rollers. Still can’t believe it! Trainings are not on Sunday anymore, but on Mondays and Wednesdays. Twice more fun now.

Last wednesday I had my first training with all the RCR-girls and it blew my freakin’ mind. I was superexcited to learn new things and get to the next level. No need to say that it was tough. I was pretty much dragged and pushed all over the way. The speed of events still leaves me speechless and a bit lost at times.. Actually kept repeating to myself “It’s okay, this is only the first real training, it’s normal your not as good yet”, but sometimes it’s pretty frustrating. You try so hard to keep track of things, and when you finally react it’s already too late. I probably need to stop thinking.

Monday was also awesome. A delegation from the Rotterdam Death Row Honeys joined us for the training. It felt like a bootcamp because there were so many of us. #10 Whippin’ Red Siren was one the guest-skaters. It’s funny because she’s the first “real” Jammer I’ve seen in my roller-derby career, when I went to see scrimmages for the first time. During this training we practiced a lot of our skills and ended with mixed scrimmages. I really like practicing skills. Actually getting better at the “Charlie Chaplin” and can already do a hockey-stop. That last thing is probably thanks to ice-skating during winter. There’s obviously still a lot of other skills I need to master, but I feel like it’s getting better. They say I’ll bend my knees when I realize it’s the only way I’m not falling or losing balance. Got it!
